The Bluebirds' music, like great art and great literature, suggests not defines. The Bluebirds always cook up a steamy pot of swamp boogie, Southern soul, roots rock, and Delta blues.
The title of The Bluebirds' second Icehouse release, "South From Memphis" connotes many things to many people. Just the words South and Memphis conjure up a variety of associations with their attendant images, the Blues, Beale St., B.B. King, Bobby Bland, Sun Records, Stax-Volt Soul, WDIA, the Mighty Mississippi, Elvis, the rockabilly revolution, the Louisiana Hayride, etc., etc., etc. The Bluebirds' music, like the title, offers more than one interpretation. Great music, like great art and great literature, suggests not defines. The Bluebirds always cook up a steamy pot of swamp boogie, Southern soul, roots rock, and Delta blues. Their eclectic originals blend colors, blur boundaries, and smelt source point soul into a musical gumbo that is fresh, distinctive, and timeless. Their new session of Musical Americana gets straight A's for artistry, ambition, affection, attitude, and atmosphere.
